What's happenin' (12/7-12/12)

And I thought last week was hectic with the 60th OIT going on!

The upcoming week will have activities everyday, Monday through Saturday.  We will see the end of the junior high boys basketball season, as they will participate in their conference tournament at Delta.  The high school girls varsity basketball team will be playing in the 2015 Lady Devil Invitational at Chaffee and the high school boys basketball teams have two regular season games. Add to that, on Saturday, the junior varsity boys will begin play in the Advance jv basketball tournament.

So lets start with what we know, day by day.

Monday:  At 6:30 pm at Delta the seventh grade boys, the tourney's #2 seed, with an 11-3 record, will take on #7 seed Kelly.  In early November, the Eagles routed the Hawks 40-4.  At 7:45 at Chaffee, the girls who are also the #2 seed and have a 2-0 mark will take on Scott City.  The Lady Rams (Ewes?) are the #7 seed and come in with 1-3 record.  The two teams did not play last year.

Tuesday:  The high school boys (1-2) will look to get back on the right track when they host Risco at 6 pm.  The Tigers also have a record of 1-2 after having competed in the Bernie Invitational. They were seeded eighth and finished sixth.  They picked up a 58-45 upset victory over traditional power Bernie who, at least early on, seems to be way down this year.

Wednesday:  At Delta, barring an upset, the seventh grade boys will be back in action at 5:15 against either Chaffee or Scott City.  On November 10th they defeated the Rams 35-29 and on November 23rd they beat the Red Devils 43-26.  The eight grade boys will take their #1 seed and 13-1 mark to the court at 6:30 when they face the winner of Scott City and Scott Central. Oran defeated the Braves on November 24th 58-12; that was a part of the boys/girls quadruple header that all who attend will probably never forget.  Against the Rams it was a 44-26 win.

Thursday:  This will be championship night for the junior high boys Scott-Mississippi conference tournament at Delta.  If both teams win on Wednesday then the seventh grade will play at 6:00 and the eighth will tip-off at 7:15.  Meanwhile, at Chaffee, the girls will play.  If they win their opener on Monday, they will face the winner of Kelly and Delta at 7:30.  Should they lose their opener, they will face the loser of Kelly and Delta at 6:00.

Friday:  The high school boys will open their conference season when they travel to Scott City for a 6:00 start.  Scott City is 2-1 after their championship game loss Friday night in the Woodland Invitational.  The Rams were the number one seed and will not play again until they host the Eagles. Last year, Scott City took two of the three meetings.  They won the regular season game by 17 and the opening round game of the seMissourian Christmas tournament by 2 before the Eagles routed the Rams in the conference tourney by 23.

Saturday:  The junior varsity boys, who received the number 2 seed, will take on Oak Ridge at 12:30 pm.
