7th grade Eagles hammer Hawks

The last time the Oran Eagles and the Kelly Hawks met in a 7th grade game, the Eagles won by a final of 40-4 and the Hawks did not score in the first and second quarters.  Last night, during the first round of the Scott-Mississippi County Conference tournament at Delta High School, it was a very similar result as Oran, the two seed, came away with a 42-5 victory and held Kelly, the seven seed, scoreless during the first and fourth periods.

The Eagles led 15-0 after one and 30-3 at half-time. After three, it was 38-5 enroute to the 37 point win.

Dane Shands and Ty Johnson both scored 14 points to lead the team in scoring.  Shands hit two from beyond the arc, while Johnson hit one.

Drew Smith chipped in 6.  The quartet of Kaleb Gosche, Kaden Hargrove, Waylon Schaefer and Keaton Stepp each added 2.

After the game, Head Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "I thought that we came out better than expected after such a long time without a game. We played with energy and intensity and didn't drop our heads when we missed some easy shots early and kept playing hard."

Oran was only 3 of 11 for a paltry 27% from the free throw.

The 7th grade Eagles improved their record to 12-3 and will take on Chaffee, the third seed, in the semi-final round at 5:15 pm Wednesday.

The 8th grade, the number one seed will then take on Scott City, the four seed, who defeated Scott County Central last night, at 6:30 pm.

Thank you Michael Stevens for the photos.
