What's happenin' (1/25-1/29)

Another busy week ahead for the Oran High School basketball teams as we enter the last month of the regular season.

On Monday, the varsity girls will take their 13-3 record to Meadow Heights.  The Panthers are winless thus far. The junior varsity (4-3) is schedued to start at 6 pm.  The older  Eagles won last year's contest 60-38.

Its a two for Tuesday.  The girls will host Chaffee in a conference match-up starting at 6.  The varsity will play first and that will be followed by 2 quarter of jv ball.  Oran won an earlier contest in the championship game of the Lady Devil Invitational, 60-43.  Since that time Chaffee has had four players quit and they enter the week 8-7.  Also on Tuesday, the boys will travel to new conference member, Oak Ridge.  The Blue Jays joined the S-MC for boys basketball this year, they are 3-10 on the season. The Eagles won last year 56-27.  The junior varsity has defeated Oak Ridge twice this year, most recently in over-time during the conference tournament.  The varsity is currently 10-8, the jv is 4-9.

The final night Scott-Mississippi Conference Tournament after being delayed by weather, is scheduled for Wednesday in Scott City.  The younger boys will take on Scott City in the 3rd place game at 4 pm.  The Rams won the earlier game 53-45.  The older boys will also play for 3rd place, taking on East Prairie at 6:30.  Oran dropped the road game earlier this year 54-53.

Thursday is a girls night out, as they will host conference rival Kelly.  The Hawks are 3-7 heading into this week.  Oran has a 70-37 win over Kelly earlier this year.

Even if you don't gamble, it's a safe bet that you won't want to miss Friday night's homecoming game against the Leopold Wildcats, as the theme is "Viva Las Vegas".  Please remember that the junior varsity will only play 2 quarters, so the varsity will start earlier than normal.   Leopold is still looking for its first win of 2015-16.  Last year the Eagles won 73-43.
