Junior high girls' season comes to end

The Oran Junior High School girls basketball team lost last night in the semi-finals of the Scott-Mississippi Conference tournament at home to Chaffee 26-11 to conclude their season.

The 3rd seeded Red Devils jumped out to a 7-1 first quarter lead over the 2nd seeded Eagles.  Oran cut the deficit to three, 12-9 at the half but could get no closer.  The Eagles only managed 2 points in the second half, on their way to the 15 point loss.

Head Coach Ethan Evan said afterwards, "We just couldn't throw the ball in the ocean the 2nd half. Our effort was good but our execution was not."

Seventh graders Hope Woodfin and Hannah Boshell had 6 points and 3 points respectively.  Sixth grader Gracie Davis had 2 for Oran, who ended their season with an 8-6 record.

Mallory Lowes, Chloe Prindle, Alyssa Spane, Rylee Boshell, Skyler Ham, Emma Priggel and Laney Shy played but did not score.

The team was 1-4 from the line for 25%.

The tournament will conclude tonight.  (#1) Scott City and (#2) East Prairie will clash for the 7th grade title at 6 pm, while (#3) Chaffee will take on (#4) Delta at 7:15 for the 8th grade championship.
