What's happenin' (10/17-10/21)

It's a transition week for athletics at Oran public schools, it's also a short week in the classroom.

Junior high girls basketball will end this week, volleyball is in a "lose and go home" scenario and junior high boys will kick off their season.

Thursday is parent-teacher conferences after a half day of school and there is no school on Friday.

This weeks action actually started yesterday with the juinor high girls conference basketball tournament hosted by Oran.  The Eagles only have an eighth grade team participating and they picked up a 27-8 win over Scott Central.

On Monday the junior high girls, now 8-5 and  the tourney's 2nd seeded team, will take on third seeded Chaffee at 8:15.  Oran won the regular season match up to open the year 29-26.

Also on Monday, the volleyball team will play in their district tournament at Bell City at 6 pm.  The Eagles, seeded 6th will face the third seeded Risco.  Oran enters post season with a 10-13-2 mark while the Tigers are 20-4-1.  Risco won the regular season contest in straight sets.  If Oran should win, they would play again at 8 pm against the winner of Bernie and Richland.

Monday will also see the beginning of the junior high boys basketball season.  Oran will travel to Woodland to take on the Cardinals at 6 pm.  Last year the Eagle 7th graders picked up a 30-23 opening night victory.

Tuesday could see the junior high girls playing in the conference championship game at 7:15 and volleyball, with two victories on Monday would play in the district championship game at 6 pm.

No games are scheduled on Wednesday.
