The little team that could

There once was a basketball team that had only 5 players.  That team had to play two nights in a row against teams that were bigger and stronger and had more players.  But that little team won both games and picked up the Scott-Mississippi JV Tournament championship last night.  That little team was the Oran Eagles and they came away with the upset last night over No. 1 ranked East Prairie 42-38 in a nail-biter.

Oran took the early lead, 12-6 after one.  But the margin was cut to 2 at the half 19-17.  Oran added a point in the third and the score stood at 32-29.

It all came down to the fourth period as East Prairie ratcheted up the pressure.

Oran had the lead and was taking time off the clock when Paige Bradley hit a huge three-pointer from the left corner to help seal the win.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "The girls came out and played very well against a good East Prairie team. With only 5 girls on the squad, they played with tons of heart and determination. The girls hit some big shots and came up with some big defensive stops when they needed them.  I am very proud of the way these girls played."

Taylor Lowes led all scorers with 19 which included 3 big treys.  Katelyn Streeter ran the point and had 10 points with 1 from beyond the arc.  Savannah Below scored 7 while Bradley and Heather Gosche had 3 apiece.

The Eagles were only 4 of 10 from the line for 40%.

They improved their record to 5-0 and will play at Saxony on Monday at 6 pm.
