Back-to-back tourney champs!

For the second night in a row, the Oran High School varsity girls basketball team had to battle illness as well as their opponents on the court. They were successful in both endeavors and in doing so they claimed the Scott-Mississippi Conference tournament crown for the second year in a row as they defeated Scott County Central by a final score of 78-60.

The Eagles jumped out to a 25-11 first quarter lead and at the end of the third quarter it was 62-40.  It looked like it would be a cake-walk, but the Bravettes increased their pressure as fatigue set in for Oran.  Scott Central went on a 14-2 run to cut the lead to 64-54 with 4:44 remaining.  Oran regrouped, however and went on a 14-6 run of their own, helped in large part by a 10 of 13 fourth quarter performance at the free-throw line, to close out the 18 point victory.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "The girls battled some adversity during this tournament. The girls played through some sickness and showed toughness against Scott County.  We got off to a quick start in the 1st quarter and that was the key to the rest of the game."

Leah Cauble was the night's top scorer with 36.  She hit 2 from long range and was 12 of 13 from the line.  She had a team-high 7 assists and 7 rebounds.  Jessie Long and Kaylee Payne had 15 apiece.  Long led the team in rebounds with 8 and also had 7 steals.  Payne had 7 boards before fouling out late in the game.  Brianna Stause scored 7, she hit 2 from distance. Claire Ramsey had 5, she hit a trey.

Kenzie Graviett and Madison Ramsey played but did not score.

The Eagles hit 43% from inside (18-42) and a good 40% from outside (8-20).  From the free-throw they were fantastic, hitting 18 of 21 for 86%.

Oran improved to 15-0 with their third tournament championship of the season.  Previously they won the Lady Devil Invitational and the Delta New Year's Invitational.

They will travel to Saxony for a rematch of the Delta tournament title game on Monday.  The jv tips of at 6 pm.
