Varsity boys advance over Kelly

On a night when Max Priggel scored a career-high and the Eagles scored a season-high, Oran hammered the Hawks 81-47 in the opening round of the Scott-Mississippi Conference boys tournament hosted by Kelly High School.

The game started tight.

With two minutes gone, the score was knotted 6-6.  The Eagles, however, went on a 14-4 run to close out the first period and took a 20-8 lead into the second.

Kelly scored the first 4 points to cut the margin to 8 at 20-12. Oran took over after that by scoring the next 8, including back-to-back treys by Jacob Shoemaker and the rout was on.

At the half, the Eagles, the 3-seed, were up 44-21 over the 6th seeded Hawks.

The lead was 29 after 3, 65-26 and the turbo-clock was in affect most of the fourth quarter.

Coach Joe Shoemaker had this to say after the game, "On the defensive end, we did a good job of guarding without fouling and limiting them to one shot each trip.  Offensively, I thought we did a good job of attacking and moving the basketball."

Max Priggel poured in 34 points. He hit 3 shots from beyond the arc.  Jacob Shoemaker scored 15 including his 2 long-range bombs. Also, he was  3-3 from the line. Cole Priggel was the third Eagle to reach double-digits with 11.

Layne Johnson chipped in 9 while, Drew Reischman and Luke Barnes added 6 apiece off the bench.

Wyatt Kinney, Joey Phillips, William Kluesner and Peyton McVey played but did not score.

Oran was 8 for 16 from the charity stripe for 50%.

They are now 8-6 on the season and will be back in action Thursday evening at 7:45, when they take on the No. 2 seeded East Prairie Eagles.  Oran has lost the last three meetings between the two teams by a total of 5 points.

The junior varsity, the 3-seed, will play tonight at 7:30.  They take on the 6th seeded Oak Ridge Bluejays.
