Eagles pick up win over Woodland

Leah Cauble poured in 35 as she outscored the Woodland Cardinals on her own and the Oran High School girls basketball team won 68-32 on the road last night.

Neither the offense nor the defense was functioning at peak performance during the first half for Oran.

But the Eagles were still able to jump out to a 10 point lead after one quarter, 22-12, with Cauble scoring 13 of those points.

The lead was up to 17 at the intermission, 41-24.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "I thought we missed a lot of shots early on and our defensive effort stunk in the 2nd quarter. We challenged the girls to come out and put the game away in the 3rd quarter and they answered the challenge."

And they did, as Oran outscored the Cardinals 24-7 to double the margin to 34 and the game was played with a running clock in the fourth.

Cauble hit 4 three-pointers.  She grabbed 6 rebounds and had 9 steals.  Jessie Long also reached double-digit scoring with 12.  She also had 6 boards.  Both had 5 offensive caroms in their totals.

Brianna Stause hit 2 treys in her 8 total points.  Claire Ramsey finished with 5, including 1 from beyond the arc.  Kaylee Payne made a trey for her 3 points.  She led the team with 5 assists.  Katelyn Streeter also added 3 points, while Kenzie Graviett went 2 for 2 from the line for her points.

Savannah Below, Paige Bradley, Heather Gosche, Taylor Lowes and Madison Ramsey all saw the floor but not the scoring column.

The Eagles are now 19-2 on the year.

They will host conference rival East Prairie Thursday night at 6 pm.  It will be senior night and Brianna Stause will be honored between games.
