Softball Preview

It will be a quick turnaround for a large portion of the Oran Lady Eagles 16 player roster as they transition from basketball to softball.  Eight were playing in the basketball final four just over a week ago and another was a cheerleader.

But this Monday they will hit the field for the first time at 4:30 when they host Scott City.  The Lady Rams ended Oran season last year in the district championship game, 7-6.

Oran graduated two seniors from last year's squad that finished 10-7.  Both were pitchers, Tatum May and Hannah Scherer.

The girls have bumped their schedule up from 18 games last year to 22 this year and they will face all four local district winners, Scott City, Kennett, New Madrid County Central and Malden.

The roster includes 5 juniors, 4 sophomores and 7 freshmen.

Of those returning players  Leah Cauble led the team with a .455 batting average and 24 RBI.  She also had a home run and 17 stolen bases.  Jessie Long batted .417 and drove in 14.  Sydney Kern hit .404 and had a team-high 21 stolen bases.  Claire Ramsey finished with a .364 average and led the team with 3 home runs and 18 runs batted in.

Kenzie Graviett is the only returning pitcher that saw action last year.  She wound up 5-2 with a 2.33 era.  She tossed 39 innings in 11 games.

She'll have help from a couple of talented freshmen in Sam Welter and Kaylee Payne.
