What's happenin' (3/20-3/25)

It's time to start spring sports for Oran High School after a very successful winter campaign.

This year there will be issues with parking as recent weather has slowed down the Manac construction.  Please be patient.  There is a small amount available along the tree-line past the softball field and hopefully more soon on the other side of the Crooked Ford.  There is still parking in the alley down the first base side of the baseball field.  We all hope the situation improves as the season progresses.

The softball girls hit the field on Monday at 4:30 when they host district rival Scott City.  The Lady Rams took 2 from the Lady Eagles last year, 4-2 in the regular season opener and 7-6 in the district championship game.  Scott City opened the season on Friday with a 10-0 five-inning rout of Gideon.

There are no games scheduled on Tuesday.

The softballers will be back at it on Wednesday.  Oran will host the Delta Bobcats at 4:30.  Last year Delta and Advance played together because of small numbers at Delta.  This year the Bobcats have enough.

On Thursday, the track team will hear the starter's gun for the 1st time as they compete at East Prairie.  The meet starts at 4 pm.

Also on Thursday, the Lady Eagles will travel to Advance for their first road game of the season at 4:30.  This year the Hornets are combined with Zalma.  The A-Z team opened its season on Friday with a 10-0 win over Bell City in 6 innings.

First pitch for baseball will be on Friday.  The Eagles travel to Bloomfield for a 4:30 contest.  Last spring, this game was rescheduled due to the Wildcats' run to the final four in basketball and then rained out and never played.  During the fall season, Oran won a thriller 2-1.

On Saturday the boys will play two.  They travel to Dexter to take on the host Bearcats at 10 am.  Last year the Eagles lost a slugfest 14-12 in a game played at Ste. Genevieve.  Game two is scheduled for noon against Valle Catholic, the three-time defending class 2 state champs.  Last year the Warriors won 10-0.

We hope to have softball and baseball spring previews out either today or tomorrow.  Track will be early next week.

Wrap-ups for the hoops season will also come out early next week.  We have to wait on some post-season awards to be announced before we can release the information.

Also, once again this year, you can listen to Eagle baseball on 104.1 FM.

I also hope to include more embedded audio during the spring seasons' blogposts.
