Eagles deal Devils defeat

The Oran High School baseball team picked up a win Saturday afternoon over the Chaffee Red Devils 4-2.  The game had been scheduled to be played at home, but wet field conditions forced a move to Harmon Field in Chaffee. The Eagles maintained home-team status.

Oran drew first blood.  In the bottom of inning number one, Drew Reischman led off with a single to right and went to second on a balk.  Layne Johnson was hit by a pitch.  With one out Cole Priggel walked to load the bases.  Todd Priggel, with two outs, walked to force in a run.

The Eagles made it 2-0 in the third when Johnson reached on an infield error to open the frame.  He stole 2nd and moved to third on Clay Sauceda's ground out.  Cole Priggel singled to left to drive Johnson home.

That's how it stood into the fifth when the Red Devils tied it up.

A one-out walk and consecutive singles drove in one and chased the starter, Johnson.  Reischman came in in relief and allowed a rbi single before retiring the next two.

Oran regained the lead in their half with a two-out rally.  Sauceda walked, moved to second when Cole Priggel reached on an infield error.  Sauceda would score and Priggel would advance to third on another infield error off the bat of Austin Eftink.  Todd Priggel doubled to left-center driving home Cole, but Eftink was gunned down at the plate to end the inning.

Chaffee threaten in both the sixth and seventh innings as they had a leadoff single up the middle and a one-out error Reischman recorded a strikeout and induced a ground ball force out.

In the seventh, a lead-off error was erased after a fly out and a game-ending 6-4-3 double play.

Reischman picked up the win to improve to 2-1. He went 2 2/3 shutout innings gave up 2 hits and struck out 1.    Johnson got a no-decision, going 4 1/3 allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits, 3 walks.  He struck out 8.

Todd Priggel was 2-2 with 2 rbi.  Cole was 1-2 and had one run driven in.

The Eagles improved to 11-3 overall and 4-2 in Scott-Miss play.

They travel to Bell City Monday afternoon to take on their post-season nemesis, the Cubs, in a game that is scheduled to start at 4 pm.
