Volleyball sweeps Bell City

The junior varsity volleyball team improved to 5-6 with a 25-16 & 25-18 win over the visiting Bell City Cubs on Tuesday evening.  The varsity stands at 8-9-1 after its 25-5 and 25-19 win.  It was the first victory over the district foe since 2014.

Coach Amy Wibbenmeyer said the jayvee, "went out and played the game we know how to play, they worked together and were able to pull out a win in 2 sets; even though in that second set we started to slack a little bit, I was proud they pulled together to win it."

Sam Welter served seven aces, had four assists and a kill.  Savannah Below had four aces, five kills and two assists.  Paige Bradley had three aces and two kills.  Kennedi McVay had a pair of aces, a kill and an assist.  Heather Gosche had an ace, while Megan Henson added a kill.

In the nightcap,   Cassie Cochran dished out14 assists and served an ace.  Kenzie Graviett had five aces and two kills.  Kamryn Graviett, Malia LeGrand and Katelyn Streeter each had three aces.  Streeter added two kills while Graviett recorded a dig.  Jessie Long had six kills and two digs.  Kaylee Payne was credited with five kills and a block.

Coach Wibbenmeyer said the varsity "wasn't on their A game, but they still came out with a win, which I was happy about."

She continued, "We had some silly errors in both games, and overall, there is still room left for growth with both teams.  It's best when the girls are out there having fun while playing the game and I felt like we saw a little more of that from both teams."

Volleyball will be back in action this evening at 5 pm. at district rival Richland.  It will be a "varsity-only" match.
