Eagles use big 3rd quarter to blast past Braves

The Oran Eagles used a 24-8 third period to expand a six-point halftime lead enroute to an 82-61 victory over the Scott County Central Braves last night to move into tonight's championship game against Advance at 8 pm.

The Eagles led 17-15 after one and 34-28 at the break.

Much like last year, Oran came out hot out of the locker room to expand on the lead.  The fourth quarter saw Eagles lead by as much as 30 and featured a turbo-clock briefly.

Jacob Shoemaker led five Oran players that scored in double-digits with 21 in just over two-quarters of action.  Cole Priggel added 16, while Lane Johnson and Drew Reischman both chipped in 13. Johnson hit two from beyond the arc and sat much of period number two due to foul issues.  Todd Priggel had 10 points include two treys of his own plus an impressive coast to coast drive.  He grabbed 14 rebounds to record a double-double in the first game of his sophomore season.

Tyson Goodale scored nine off the bench for the top-seeded Eagles, who advanced to the championship game for the first time since 2013.  It will be the first time that the fourth-seeded Braves have not made it to the championship game since 2005.  Oran has not won its own tourney since 1972.

The Eagles hit 13 of 21 from the line for 62%.

Advance, the number three seed, upset the second-seed Malden Greenwave in come from behind fashion, 64-61.  Malden and Scott County will play at 6 pm for third-place.  At 5 pm, 5) Chaffee faces off with 6) Kelly in the consolation final.
