Lady Eagles Roll, Cauble breaks 2000

The Oran High School girls varsity basketball team soared to an easy 76-26 victory last night on the road at Meadow Heights.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "We got off to a sluggish start and got beat down the floor during the first few minutes of the game. After that, I thought our defense picked it up and we pushed the pace offensively."

Despite the less than optimal beginning, the Eagles were up 7-0 before the Panthers hit their initial bucket of the game about two and a half minutes in.  It was 13-2 with 2:37 left in the opening quarter when the hosts called timeout.  It was 23-7 after the first eight minutes.

In the second quarter,  Leah Cauble hit a trey with 1:23 before the intermission.  It was the junior's 2000th career point.  Oran was up 46-16.  At the break, it was 49-16.

Coach Evans said this about the feat, "Scoring 2000 points in a career is a huge accomplishment, especially as a junior.  It’s a testament to how hard she works on her game and to her teammates for being unselfish and getting her the ball."

The Eagles led 74-23 heading into the turbo-clock fourth.

Cauble outscored Meadow Heights on her own, pouring in 39 in less than three-quarters of action.  She hit three treys and was four of five from the line.  She grabbed six rebounds and had three assists.  For the third straight game, Jessie Long notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.  She also had 8 steals.

Katelyn Streeter added eight points as did Taylor Lowes, off the bench. Lowes also snagged five rebounds.   Madison Ramsey hit a three-pointer for her points.  Claire Ramsey and Katie Webb rounded out the scoring with two apiece.

Every Eagle available saw action, including Heather Gosche, who saw the floor for the first time this season following an injury.  Kaylee Payne is still out due to her injury.

The team hit 29-47 from inside the arc (61.7%) and 4-20 from beyond (20%).  From the free throw stripe, they hit 6 of 13 for 46.2%.

They improved their record to 6-1 and will travel on Monday to take on Class 5 Poplar Bluff at 6 pm.
