Eagles beat Blue Jays twice

The Oran High School boys basketball teams picked up two conference wins on the road last night in Oak Ridge.  The junior varsity won 60-42 and the varsity overcame a slow start to prevail 63-34.

The junior Eagles led 14-6 after one and extended it to 38-14 at halftime as they cruised to the 18 point victory.

Langdon Scheeter led all scorers with 15.  That total included one trey.  Ty Johnson finished with 11.  He too hit one from beyond the arc.

Cooper Priggel and Kaiden Massey both had nine.  Priggel's all come from three-point land.  Myles Trankler had seven.  Dane Shands and Tristin Schlosser both had a field goal.  Cameron Westrich had a free throw for his only tally.

Oran was 6 of 13 at the line for 46%.

The younger team is now 4-1 and 11-3.

The varsity team missed its first five shots last night and was fouled on the sixth.  Drew Reischman was able to connect on the second of his two free throws to give Oran its first points of the night at the 6:37 mark.  Cole Priggel scored the other six for the Eagles as they were down 8-7 after one.

Oran's offense heated up in the second thanks in large part to its defense.  The Eagles opened with an 8-0 run and entered the halftime locker room up 30-11.

Oran outscored Oak Ridge 33-23 in the final two quarters to pick up the 29 point win.

Coach Joe Shoemaker said, " I didn’t think we shot the ball very well. I was, however,  pleased with our effort. Sometimes effort and defensive levels drop when players aren’t hitting shots. They (the Blue Jays) were spreading their zone out and we were able to take advantage with dribble penetration and post play. Hopefully, we will start to shoot better from the perimeter."

Cole Priggel had a game-high 16, which matched his season-high.  Drew Reischman had a season-high 15, many coming on nice assists from Todd Priggel.  Jacob Shoemaker, who was ill, finished with 10.

Layne Johnson, who was scoreless until the fourth quarter, ended up with eight, including two treys.  Tyson Goodale and Todd Priggel both had six.  Bradley Brooks added two points.

The Eagles were only 3 of 10 at the line for a paltry 30%.

They are now 4-1 in the Scott-Miss and 15-3 overall.

Oran will be home on Friday night to take on the Leopold Wildcats.  The homecoming contest will start at 6 pm.
