The Oran High School baseball team got solid pitching from two ninth-graders yesterday in its 11-0 nothing five-inning victory over the visiting Leopold Wildcats.
Ty Johnson got the start and picked up the win. He went 3 and two-thirds. He allowed two hits, he walked two and struck out two. He also hit a couple as he improved to 2-0. Kaden Hargrove went the final inning and a third. He did not allow a hit or a walk and struck out three.
The Eagles plated five in the first and second innings. Then they tacked on one more in the third.
Johnson also led the way at the plate. He was 2-3 with a pair of doubles and four RBI. Jacob Shoemaker and Drew Reischman each added two runs driven in. Clay Sauceda had the only other extra-base hit, a double. Cole and Todd Priggel both had a pair of hits for the Eagles who improved to 8-7.
Coach Joe Bickings said, "It was nice to see us jump on Leopold early by scoring five runs each in the first two innings. They made a few mistakes in the field and we did a very nice job of capitalizing on those mistakes. I thought we hit some balls hard at times and a few of those were hard balls on the ground that got through even with the wet field and higher grass because we couldn’t get the infield mowed because of the rain. I thought Ty threw well and he has looked better his last few times out. You gave up 2 hits in the first inning and that was all they got the rest of the game. Kaden came in and threw strikes and was able to shut the door on them. It was a good outing for us and I hope we can keep things rolling."
