The Oran High School baseball team opened its fall season on Friday evening looking to defend its Bank of Grandin Classic title. It was not to be as the Eagles fell to South Pemiscot 3-2.
The Eagles, after stranding the bases loaded in the top of the first, fell behind 1-0 in the bottom half. The first four Bulldogs reached safely, but starter, Todd Priggel settled down and struck out the next three to limit the damage.
Oran tied it in the third with back-to-back leadoff doubles by Jacob Shoemaker and Priggel.
The Eagles grabbed the lead in the fifth, thanks to a leadoff home run by Shoemaker.
South Pem reclaimed the advantage in the bottom half. They used two singles, two hit batsmen and an error to plate two.
Oran got a runner to third in the sixth with one out but could not push the tying run across.
The contest was called after six innings because of a time limit.
Priggel went the first four innings allowing only the one run on four hits. He walked two, hit two and struck out eight.
Kaden Hargrove tossed the final two innings and took the loss. He was charged with two runs, but only one earned. He gave up four hits. hit two and struck out two.
The Eagle offense was limited to only four hits.
Shoemaker had two, the double and homer. Priggel had his double. Quenton Senciboy led off the game with a single.
