The Oran High School volleyball teams dropped its games last night at home to their class 3 conference rivals, the Kennett Indians. The junior varsity fell 25-13 & 25-13. The varsity lost 25-19 & 25-23.
In the varsity match, the Eagles led in both games but couldn't hold on.
During game one, Oran led 16-11 before the Indians went on a run to take a 19-18 lead. They then went on to claim the six-point win.
In game two, the Eagles led early, fell behind and then a valiant comeback fell just short.
Oran scored the first four points, but the trailed 11-7 and then were down 20-13. The Eagles were trailing 24-17 before Kaylee Payne was able to serve her team back to within one but Oran could get no further.
Payne led the squad with seven digs, six kills, five aces and a block. Sam Welter had nine assists and a block. Kennedi McVay had two kills and two aces. Katelyn Streeter had four digs, Heather Gosche added two. Savannah Below chipped in with a kill.
Coach Amy Wibbenmeyer told the blog, "We came out strong but we fell apart. We have to work on talking as a team and working together the whole time. We are going to make mistakes but we have to learn and grow from them."
Up next will be an always tough Advance Hornets team at home next Tuesday, September 4th at 6 pm.
