Eagles lose pitchers' duel

The Oran High School baseball team traveled to Bell City Thursday afternoon to take on the Cubs.  The game had originally been scheduled to be played at Oran so the Eagles were the home team on the scoreboard.

The teams used four pitchers, who combined to allow only one run on six hits, sixteen batters struck out.  Unfortunately for Oran, they were on the short end of the 1-0 score.

The Eagles only managed two hits, a single by Jacob Shoemaker in the first and Quentin Senciboy singled in the fifth.  Oran had base runners in every inning but couldn't get the big hit.  Striking out 12 times didn't help their cause as they fell to 2-6 on the season.

Kaiden Hargrove got the start and went the first four and two-thirds innings.  He allowed two hits, he walked three and struck out three. Senciboy (0-1) went the final two and one-third, he allowed the one run on two hits, he walked three and struck out three as well.

The game was scoreless heading into the seventh inning.  Bell City singled to lead off the frame.  The runner moved to second on a passed ball and third on a sacrifice bunt.  The next batter walked.  Then with two down and an 0-1 count, a single drove in the runner from third.  The runner at first, however, was thrown at trying to advance to third to end the threat.

The Eagles had a chance in the bottom of the seventh.

Luke Patterson was hit by a pitch, leading off.  Avery Mitchem sacrificed him to second.  Kole Simms walked to put the potential winning run was on base.  But, the game ended on a strikeout.
