Junior High girls win on the road

The Oran Junior High girls basketball teams picked up two wins on Thursday evening at conference foe Scott City.

The seventh grade won 37-24.  The eighth grade prevailed 47-16.

Both teams improved to 2-0.

In the opener, the Lady Eagles led 20-9 at the intermission and cruised to the 13 point win.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "I thought we started a little slow in this game but played well later on especially during the 3rd quarter. We were able to distance ourselves then and put the game away comfortably."

Oran outscored the Rams 15-5 in that third quarter.

The Eagles were led by Addie Nichols with 27 points including a three-pointer.

Braylynn Morgan had eight points and Scarlett Schlosser rounded out the scoring with two.

They were only 2 for 11 from the line for 18%.

The older girls tossed a shutout in the first period, taking a 13-0 lead.  The led 20-5 at the intermission and continued to expand the margin to the final 31 point difference.

Evans said, "I was really pleased with the way we came out from the get go both offensively and defensively. We hadn’t practiced well the last couple days but the girls were up to the task of beating a good Scott City team."

Grace Davis had 17 points to lead her team.  Emma Priggel finished with 12 including one from beyond the arc.  Liza Dannenmueller had 11.

Nichols had four and Morgan hit a trey.

They were 9 of 18 from the charity stripe for 50%.

The girls will be back at home on Monday when the host Meadow Heights at 6 pm.
