One big inning!

The Oran High School baseball team used a huge second inning to pick up its second win of the season, on the road 18-2 at Leopold.

The Eagles sent 21 batters to the plate to blow open a scoreless game.  Oran got doubles from Jacob Shoemaker, Todd Priggel and Tristin Schlosser to take a 16-0 lead.

The Wildcats scored two in the bottom of the third to extend the game.

The Eagles got those runs back in the fourth.  Kaden Hargrove doubled in the frame as Oran was able to end the contest with the new 15 run mercy rule.

Kole Simms had a pair of hits and three runs driven in.  Priggel was 3-3 and also drove in three.  Carter Heuring was also 3-3 and had three rbi.  Hargrove added three rbi, as well.

Ty Johnson (1-1) got the start on the mound.  He went the first two innings.  He gave up one hit, he walked one and struck out three in picking up the win.  Priggel pitched one frame, allowing two runs (only one earned).  He walked two and struck out one.  Hargrove got the final three outs.  He walked one and struck out one.

Coach Joey Bickings said, "It was a good win for us yesterday and it was nice to see that we were capable of putting up runs and not letting off.  What was really amazing about that 16 run 2nd inning was that we did it all with 2 outs.  It also all started with the bottom of our order setting the table for the top.  Avery Mitchem got a big two-out hit to right field to score a run to get us rolling and getting our lineup to roll over.  From there we took advantage of some opportunities and ran with it.  I think we had 10 hits in that inning mixed with a few walks and one error."

"I still felt like we got a little lackadaisical going into the bottom of the 2nd inning and thought the game was already over.  We ended up giving up two runs that inning and we shouldn't have.  We are a young team and we have to figure out that the game isn't over until the umpire says so.  We've still have to go out an compete every inning and every pitch,"  Bickings added.

They will take their 2-3 record to Advance to face the Hornets on Thursday at 4:30pm.  The varsity contest will be followed by an abbreviated junior varsity match up.
