Eagles hammer Hawks

The Oran Junior High School girls basketball teams picked up two more conference wins last night as they defeated the visiting Kelly Hawks 59-13 in the seventh-grade contest and 54-20 in the eighth

Coach Ethan Evans said, "We had a fantastic effort during the seventh-grade game both offensively and defensively. The girls got off to a nice start offensively and defensively in the 1st quarter. They did a good job of working the ball around and getting good shots by running the floor."

Addie Nichols poured in 17 of her game-high 31 points during the first period as the Lady Eagles soared out to a 26-2 lead after the first six minutes.  It was 41-7 at the intermission and the younger team cruised the rest of the way.

Bralynn Morgan hit for 17.

Scarlett Schlosser had seven and Molly Spane added four.

Nichols was 2-2 from the line and added a trey during her huge opening quarter.

The team was 8 out 18 at the charity stripe for 44%.

They improved to 5-0 in the Scott-Miss and 8-0 overall.

In the second game, Oran led 17-6 after one and 29-17 heading into the half-time locker rooms.

Evans said, "I was not really pleased with our defensive effort in the first half especially during the second quarter. The girls made some nice adjustments at halftime and were able to put the game away in the third quarter. The effort was much better in the secod half.

The Eagles kept expanding their lead the rest of the way and played with a running clock most of the final quarter.

Grace Davis had 22 to lead the hosts, who improved to 6-0 and 9-0.

Maddie Stickel had 10.

Carly Gloth scored nine including a three-pointer.  Liza Dannenmueller added seven and was 3-3 on free throws.  Emma Priggel had four and Laney Shy rounded out the scoring with a field goal.

They were 7-12 on free tosses for 58%.

The girls will be back in action this evening when they host Oak Ridge at 6 pm.  The game will be played in the multipurpose room, while volleyball had a senior night game at the high school gym.
