Eagles soar past Blue Jays

The Oran Junior High School girls basketball teams helped head coach Ethan Evans celebrate his birthday happily with a pair of wins last night over the visiting Oak Ridge Blue Jays.  The seventh grade won 48-5 and the eighth-grade picked up a 50-18 win.

In game one, the Lady Eagles held Oak Ridge scoreless in the first half and led 33-0.

Evans said of his younger squad, "After a slow start the girls did a really good job of turning it on. Our pressure got to them and led to some easy buckets."

Addie Nichols had 22 points, including one trey.  Bralynn Morgan scored 19.  She hit four from beyond the arc.

Scarlett Schlosser had four, Lilly Knotts added two and Molly Spane hit a free throw.

The team was 5-10 at the charity stripe for 50%.

They improved to 9-0 on the season.

The older Lady Eagles led 25-13 at the break, but expanded the margin the rest of the way and played with a running clock most of the fourth quarter.

Coach Evans commented, "The girls did a good job of keeping up the defensive pressure and wore them down in the second half. We didn’t shoot the ball as well as I would’ve liked but our defense was good."

Grace Davis had 27 and Carly Gloth had 11, with a trey.

Emma Priggel scored six.  Maddie Stickel and Nichols had a field goal each and Liza Dannenmueller and Morgan both hit a free throw.

The eighth-grade was 11 for 17 at the line for 65%.

They are now 10-0.

The teams will be back in action next Tuesday when they will travel to take on Cape Central.  The game will be played in the big gym at the junior high.  Tip time is 4:30 pm.
