High School boys tip off season Monday

The Oran High School boys basketball team will open its season on Monday when they begin defense of their first Oran Invitational Tournament championship in 45 years and look to win back to back titles in even longer as they have garnered the number one seed.

The last time Oran won two straight was way back in 1965 and 1966 a total of 52 years.  Most of my readers are too young to remember. I was alive but also too young to remember.

This year's varsity roster looks like this:

The district tournament will be hosted by Chaffee this year.

Coach Joe Shoemaker told the blog, "I think this group is working very hard.  Jacob (Shoemaker) is doing a great job of being a leader and Todd (Priggel) is developing into a more vocal leader.  We will expect some minutes out of some of the younger players and if they continue to develop this could be one of my deeper teams that I have had at Oran.  This depth leads to some very competitive practices.  This group seems to really get up and down the floor this year and plays with good pace and space.  If we will commit to blocking out then rebounding and play committed team defense this group should be fun to watch by the end of the year.

It all starts Monday when the #1 seed Eagles take on the #8 seeded Bell City Cubs at 5 pm.
