The fourth-seeded Oran High School boys varsity basketball team defeated the 13th-seeded Advance Hornets in the first round of the 74th Annual SEMissourian Christmas Tournament yesterday afternoon 74-65.
The game looked like it might be a blow out early as the Eagles used a smothering defense to take control. Oran led 11-4 at the 5:21 mark of the opening period when the Hornets took time out. The Eagles led by twenty, 29-9, after one. Advance outscored Oran 56-45 the rest of the way.
Tyson Goodale led the Eagles with 26 points and was 4 of 4 from the line. Ty Johnson finished in double-digits as well with 17. He hit one from beyond the arc.
Jacob Shoemaker ended up with nine, including a trey. Langdon Scheeter had eight and also hit a three-pointer before being plowed on a no-call late in the game. Cooper and Todd Priggel each had six. Cooper's came on a pair of treys. Kalen Read added a field goal.
The Eagles were only 9 of 18 from the free throw line for 50%.
Oran will be back on the court in the nightcap at 9 pm this evening when they face the fifth-seeded Notre Dame Bulldogs.
