Eagles rout Rams

The Oran High School boys varsity basketball team remained undefeated by beating the visiting Scott City Rams last night, 75-48.  The junior varsity lost 45-41.

The younger team was down double digits in the third quarter. They came back but couldn't get over the hump.

Cameron Westrich topped Oran with 19 points.

He was followed by Cooper Priggel with eight.  He hit two three's in two-quarters of action.  Kaleb Gosche and Samuel Shoemaker both scored four.  Shoemaker played in two-quarters, as well.  Diesel Cato and Seth Cauble each added three.

The team was 12 of 7 from the line for 58%.  Scott City was 17 of 30 for 57 %.  The Rams were 6 of 9 in the fourth as the Eagles tried to foul to get back into it.  The jayvee team is now 0-1 in the Scott-Miss and 1-1 overall.  They will be back in action on Monday when they begin play in the Advance Junior Varsity Tournament.  Oran is the five-seed and will take on the fourth-seeded Delta Bobcats at 6:15 in the main gym.

In the nightcap, The Eagles used pressure defense to build a 17-5 lead after one quarter.  At the break, it 39-18.  The third quarter saw the Rams double their point production but Oran scored 25, taking a 62-36 lead into the final eight minutes.

Much of the fourth was played with a running clock before the final 27-point margin.

Jacob Shoemaker led all scorers with 21.  He was one of four Eagles in double-digits.  He hit two from beyond the arc and was 5-6 from the line. Ty Johnson had 16.  He hit a trey and his only free throw attempt.  Todd Priggel ended up the 13 and Tyson Goodale, who started slow, finished with 13 as well. He connected on a three and 11 of his 13 came in the third quarter.

Langdon Scheeter had five, including a three-point.  Cooper Priggel hit one from long range to account for his three points.  Kaiden Massey and Samuel Shoemaker each added a field goal.

Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "We played a little bit sloppy and didn’t shoot it well but we were able to get a running clock for most of the fourth quarter. We will need a good practice to prepare for a really good East Prairie team on Tuesday."

Oran was 9-12 at the line for 75%.  They improved to 1-0 and 5-0 and will be back in action when both squads host East Prairie in another conference matchup.  Tip time is 6 pm.
