Eagles squeak by Bobcats

The fifth-seeded Oran High School boys junior varsity basketball team entered last night's opening game of the Advance JV Tournament as slight underdogs, facing the fourth-seeded Delta Bobcats.

After one quarter, it appeared that the seeds would hold, as the Eagles were down 19-7.  From there on, however, Oran doubled up Delta, 36-18 and claimed a 43-37 upset win.

Cameron Westrich topped his team with 18 points.

Deisel Cato put in eight.  Nick Romas scored seven and had the team's only three.  Seth Cauble added six and Logan Rose four.

They were 12-20 from the free throw line for 60% including 4-4 in the fourth.  Meanwhile, Delta was limited to only one field goal in the final period and hit only 2-5 from the line during that time, as Oran erased a two-point deficit heading into the final seven minutes.

After tonight's 6 pm home contest with conference foe, East Prairie, the tournament resumes on Wednesday when Oran will take on top-seeded Bloomfield, who advanced with a 57-31 victory over the eighth-seed Oak Ridge Blue Jays, at 5 pm in the main gym.  Also, last night, 2) East Prairie beat 7) Chaffee 38-17 and 6) Woodland shocked 3) Advance 43-42.
