JV boys bounce Bloomfield, advance to finals

The fifth-seeded Oran High School boys junior varsity basketball team pulled its second upset in as many games at the Advance JV tournament.  Last night, they defeated the top-seeded Bloomfield Wildcats by a final of 47-30.  The Eagles had beaten the number-four seeded Delta Bobcats, 43-37, on Monday.

Last night Oran led 14-6 after one and took a 26-15 lead into the halftime locker room. and picked up the 17 point victory.

Coach Joe Bickings said, "Last night was a good win for us.  Bloomfield is always well coached and I knew they were going to get after it and pressure us.  We did a good job for the most part in breaking their press and getting layups early on to get them out of their press.  I thought we executed well at times in our half-court offense and made some adjustments to our defense after halftime that made a difference.   It is nice to get back to the championship again this year after losing to Saxony last year in it.  I just hope we can pull it off and win this time."

Cameron Westrich led all scorers with 22.  He was followed by Nick Romas with 10.  Romas hit one from beyond the arc.

Seth Cauble finished with six, Diesel Cato had four, including a trey.  Logan Rose and Kaleb Gosche had two apiece and Dawson Menz added a free throw.

The Eagles were 13-23 from the charity stripe for 57% and after Tuesday night's double-overtime defeat, bounced back nicely to improve their mark to 3-2.

They will face a Woodland Cardinal squad tonight at 7:45 on the main court.

Woodland the six-seed, too, has traveled the upset road.  They beat third-seeded Advance 43-42 in the opening round and then defeated number-two East Prairie 49-44 last evening.

In other action, Delta beat Oak Ridge 54-36 and Advance got past Chaffee 44-35.

Tonight, Oak Ridge and Chaffee play for seventh at 4 pm.  At 5:15, Delta and Advance face off for fifth.  The third-place game is scheduled for 6:30 and will be between Bloomfield and East Prairie.  The title game is set for 7:45 between the Eagles and the Cardinals.
