The Oran High School girls junior varsity basketball team came up short in its bid to win the inaugural Bloomfield Invitational Tournament. They lost a 49-40 decision to the Holcomb varsity Hornets earlier today.
Coach Ethan Evans told the blog, "We came out way too flat and had to battle from behind the whole game. They were more physical than we were and rebounded better than we did. The girls gave a much better effort in the 2nd half and made a game out of it but it was too late."
The Lady Eagles trailed 6-3 after one and 26-9 at the break. Oran cut into the lead in the third and it was 34-23 heading into the final period.
Oran opened the fourth with a five-point run to cut the margin to six with 6:39, but the Eagles went cold again and the Hornets pushed the margin to double-digits again, before Oran cut it back to the nine points at the end.
Mallory Lowes led the team with 19 points. She hit a trey and was 6-6 from the line. Hope Woodfin finished with 13 and hit three from beyond the arc.
Traci Hency had four points, Rylee Boshell and Lydia Tankersly each scored two.
The team hit 12 of 18 from the charity stripe for 67%. Their record is now 3-2 and they will not play again until January 3rd.
