JV wins tourney opener

Last night the Oran High School junior varsity girls basketball team opened defense of last year's tournament championship with a 62-14 rout of the East Prairie Lady Eagles in the first round of the Scott-Miss Conference Tournament.

The home team trailed 4-3 with 4:35 remaining in the first but after that, it was all Oran as they built a 15-6 lead after one and by halftime, it was 41-6, following a shutout second period.  The home town Eagles cruised to the 58 point win.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "We took charge from the beginning with our defense and that led to some easy looks early on. The girls also hit some outside shots to blow the game open."

Oran had two score in double-digits.  Both Mallory Lowes with 17 and Traci Hency with 16, outscored the opponent on their own.  Lowes hit four treys.

Rylee Boshell and Hope Woodfin had nine apiece.  Woodfin connected on one from beyond the arc.  Hannah Boshell finished with eight and Alyssa Spane added three to round out the scoring.

Oran's jv improved to 9-3 and will play for the tournament championship on Thursday at 6:30 against Kelly, who defeated Chaffee last night 49-36.  East Prairie will face off with Chaffee for 3rd place on Wednesday at 7:45.

In varsity action last night, Scott City upset Kelly 65-62 and Charleston rolled past East Prairie, 60-35.
