Varsity boys will play for tourney title.

The number-one seeded Oran High School boys varsity basketball team picked up an exciting 82-75 win over the fourth-seeded East Prairie Eagles last night during a semifinal matchup of the Scott-Mississippi Conference Tournament at Scott County Central High School.

Oran trailed early as they had two turnovers and a missed shot in their first three possessions.  It was 9-2 moments in before they started clicking and they led 18-16 after one.

At halftime, the lead was 38-30.

During the second half, both teams made runs.  Oran pushed the lead to double-digits and East Prairie would come rushing back.

At the 2:21 mark of the third, the score was tied at 49 but Oran lead at the end of the period, They were on top 57-51.

With 1:57 remaining, Oran led by a single tally, 72-71, but they hit 12-15 free throws during to final eight minutes and held on for the seven-point win.

Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "I thought our boys battled hard.  East Prairie came out hot from "3" early and we had to make some adjustments defensively.  Their big kid was a challenge for us to guard but our guys just battled as hard as they could.  We tried to take advantage of this mismatch on the other end and was able to get some points off it.  We were able to hit some free throws and close out the game."

Jacob Shoemaker led all scorers with 32.  He hit five from beyond the arch and was 7-7 from the line.  Tyson Goodale had 21.  He hit two treys and was 5-6 on free throws.  Todd Priggel scored 13.

Ty Johnson finished with eight. He hit two big treys during the first period as Oran made its early comeback.  Cooper Priggel and Langdon Scheeter each had four.

The varsity was 19-23 at the free throw line for 83%.

They improved to 20-1 on the season and will face seventh-seeded Scott County Central for the championship on Friday in a game that is scheduled to start at 7:45.
