Varsity breaks century mark in first round romp

The Oran High School girls varsity basketball team rolled to an easy 102-31 win yesterday over East Prairie in the first round of the Scott-Mississippi girls conference tournament at Oran.

The top-seeded Lady Eagles scored the first 17 points before the eighth-seeded East Prairie Eagles hit a free throw with 3:33 left in the opening quarter.  It was 21-3 when East Prairie hit its first field goal at 2:18.  At the end of the period, it was 30-5 and the game was basically over.

Coach Evans commented, "It was good to get everyone involved and in the scoring column. We got rolling early both offensively and defensively."

Every Eagle scored in the game.  Leah Cauble outscored East Prairie on her own in less than three quarters of action with 42.  She hit six threes and was 4-4 from the line.  She also had six rebounds and four assists.   Kaylee Payne had 11, hit a three-pointer, had five assists and five steals. Taylor Lowes had10 off the bench and she hit a pair of treys. Jessie Long also had 10.

Savannah Below had eight points with two three's.  She scored the last five points of the contest.  Katie Webb had seven.  Heather Gosche had six and Katlyn Streeter scored four, had a team-high six assists and added five steals. Madison Ramsey and Paige Bradley had two apiece.  Bradley was 2-2 from the line.

As a team, they were 30-46 from inside the arc for 65% and 11-34 from beyond for 32% and 9 of 11 at the line for 82%.

In other action yesterday, Chaffe defeated Charleston 48-41 and Scott Central hammered Delta 81-49.  The final scheduled contest Kelly vs Scott City was postponed because of the incoming weather.

As of right now, Oran (11-5) is scheduled to take on fifth-seeded Chaffee, Monday at 6:30 pm.
