JV girls pick up win

The Oran High School girls basketball team participated in the Jackson Lady Indian Shootout for the first time yesterday.  The junior varsity played first in the fourth-annual event.

The Lady Eagles took on the Park Hills Central Lady Rebels.

After a back and forth first quarter, Oran led 13-12. It was all Eagles during the second period as Oran was on top at the break, 26-14.  The two teams played nearly even during the final half and the Lady Eagles claimed a 53-42 victory.

Traci Hency, who picked up two quick fouls and had to sit the rest of the half, was the game's leading scorer with 12, all coming in the second half.  Katie Webb and Mallory Lowes each had 10.  Webb played only the first two periods and Lowes hit a pair of treys.

Hannah Boshell was big off the bench scoring nine points.  Rylee Boshell had seven.  She hit one three-pointer and was 2 of 2 from the free throw line.  Hope Woodfin hit one from beyond the arc for her points and Alyssa Spane made a field goal to round out the scoring.

They were 5 of 9 from the line for 56%.

Coach Dustin Cauble said, "Early in the game we didn’t rebound well or get back in transition. Once we made the adjustments and started getting the ball inside we took the game over. [I am] very proud of the girls' effort against a very good class 4 program"

They improved their record to 11-3 and will play next at home on Thursday when Poplar Bluff comes to town.
