Varsity Lady Eagles fall on the road

The Oran High School girls basketball teams headed to Dexter on Wednesday night hoping for a repeat of last year's dual victories over the perennial Class 4 power.  This year the junior varsity squad was the only one able to bring back a win, 53-51 in a nail-biter.  The varsity lost 70-55.

Last year Oran picked up 49-39 and 68-45 wins over the Lady Bearcats.

Coach Evans about the jv said, "This was a nice win to end the jv season with. The first and third quarters were big for us and the girls did a good job of knocking down shots. It’s been a successful year for our jv and I look forward to coaching these girls in the future."

Traci Hency led all scorers with 21.  Hope Woodfin had 19 and hit three from beyond the arc.

Mallory Lowes scored seven, including a trey, Hannah Boshell had a pair of field goals and Katie Webb connected on her two free throw attempts to round out the scoring.

The girls hit 13 of 16 from the free throw line for 81%.

They closed out their schedule with 14-3 mark.  They were 4-0 in conference games. They won the Scott-Miss tournament for the second year in a row and finished second in the Bloomfield Varsity Invitational tournament.

In the nightcap, The Eagles saw a one-point halftime deficit, 37-36, balloon to double-digits, 55-45 after three before eventually losing by 15.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "I think we ran out of gas in the second half. We didn’t shoot the ball well after the first half. This was a good test for us going forward toward districts."

Oran only had three players score.  Leah Cauble had a game-high 27.  She hit three from beyond the arc.  Kaylee Payne had 17 including a pair of treys and three assists.  Jessie Long finished with 11 points and six rebounds.

Katie Webb did not score but had a team-high nine boards.  Madson Ramsey also dished out three assists.

The girls were 13-25 from inside the arc for 52% and 6-33 from beyond for 18%.  At the line, they were 11-14 for 79%.

With the loss, they fell to 18-6 heading into last night's regular-season finale with Scott City.
