Eagles close out regular season on high note!

The Oran High School boys basketball teams had their final regular season game last night.  They hosted the rival Advance Hornets for Senior Night.  The junior varsity won by 15, 79-64 and the varsity won by unanimous decision and by 24 points, 66-42.

The jv led 22-14 after one and 48-27 at the intermission but they were outscored by five the rest of the way.

Coach Joe Bickings said, "It was really nice to end our season with a win.   We played in two tournament championships and although we were only able to win the Scott/Miss Conference Tournament, just being in the other championship game [the Advance JV Tournament] helped our kids out by having to play in a big meaningful game.   JV basketball is all about getting them ready for Varsity competition.  Throughout the year we really saw some improvements with this group.  If they continue to learn, work hard, and stay more consistent they could have a bright future here at Oran High School."

Samuel Shoemaker had a team-high 23 points, including one from beyond the arc.  Nick Romas, Logan Rose and Cameron Westrich each added 10.

Diesel Cato returned from an injury with nine points and one three.  Dane Shands also had nine and hit one three-pointer.  Seth Cauble had five.  He hit one from beyond and Cooper Priggel hit a trey to account for his points during his two-quarters of junior varsity action.

The boys were only 2 of 9 from the line for 22%.  They finish the year at  15-4.

In the varsity matchup, both teams started sluggishly on the offensive ends.  Advance took a timeout with 3:54 remaining in the first and Oran was on top 5-3.

After one period, the Eagles led 18-10 and they headed into the locker room up 33-22.

Oran pretty well put the game away in the third by outscoring the Hornets 23-7.  Five of those Eagle points came in the waning seconds of the quarter.  Cooper Priggel was fouled on a three-point attempt.  It was ruled a flagrant foul and Cooper hit all five shots.

Briefly, during the fourth, a turbo-clock was enacted, but Advance was able to chip the margin down to 24.

Cooper Priggel was the games high scorer with 14.  He had one trey and was 9 of 10 at the line.  He was just one of four Eagles in double-figures.  Tyson Goodale, Todd Priggel and Jacob Shoemaker each added 12.

Ty Johnson had nine, including one from beyond the arc.  Langdon Scheeter finished with seven.

The varsity was 20 of 31 from the line for 65%.

Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "I was impressed by how we maintained our composer. And I was happy to be able to finish off the regular season with a win for our seniors.   This group of seniors lost one game in two years on our home floor.  We will need to really focus in practice the next few days and prepare for districts."

They improved to 24-1 and will next play on Saturday.  The number-one seed Eagles will begin defense of back-to-back district championships against the eighth-seeded Puxico Indians at Chaffee.  Game time is 5 pm.
