Baseball wins at Woodland

The Oran High School baseball team traveled to Woodland High School on Monday to take on the Cardinals and picked up a 13-4 victory.

The Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings.

Woodland plated three in the third.

Both teams scored a single tally in the fifth.

Oran put the game away by scoring three in both the sixth and seventh innings.

Kayden Hargrove (1-1) went the first five to pick up the win for the Eagles that improved to 5-2.  He scattered six hits and allowed four runs, three earned.  He walked two and struck out four.

Ty Johnson and Todd Priggel each drove in three.  Johnson and Jacob Shoemaker had triples, while Priggel, Kole Simms and Dane Shands added doubles.

Johnson and Conner Kern tossed perfect innings in relief.  Johnson struck out the side.

Coach Joe Bickings said, "[It was] another quality win for us against Woodland.  They have played a lot of good teams this year and are a really good ball club.  It was nice to jump out on them early and score 6 runs in the first two innings.  I felt like we swung the bats fairly well even in the innings that we didn't score in.  We hit the ball hard but it was right at them.  Kaden threw the ball pretty good today when he trusted his stuff.  He had a few problems by walking the leadoff batter two different times and ironically both of them scored.  Those were the only innings they scored in.  Leadoff walks and 2 out walks can hurt you at times.  I also felt like we had a few mental errors during the game that we have to clean up to be a more complete team.  We have another tough game [Tuesday] by facing Malden who is the defending Class 3 State Champions.  We will have to come ready to play."
