Baseball blisters Bernie

The Oran High School Baseball team picked up a convincing 11-1 six-inning win during their weekend at Bernie yesterday to improve to 8-2 on the year.

Ty Johnson (2-0) picked up the win, going four innings.  He allowed no runs on two hits.  He struck out four and did not walk a batter. Connor Kern and Todd Priggel went an inning each.  Kern gave up an earned run on two hits.  He struck out two.  Priggel walked one.  Both hit a batter each.

Carter Heuring had a big day at the plate.  He drove in four.  He had a bases-loaded triple in the second to start the scoring.  Oran plated three in the second and third innings.  They added two in the fourth and sixth with a single tally in the fifth to provide the mercy-rule margin.

Kolton Payne drove in two with his sixth-inning double.  Kaden Hargrove also had two RBI. Heuring, Priggel, Johnson, Dawson Menz and Hargrove had two hits apiece.

Coach Joe Bickings said, "It was good to bounce back after a tough loss to Bell City.  I thought what got us going was a 2 out walk in the top of the 2nd.  We were able to take advantage of that walk and turn it into a hit and another walk to load the bases for Carter.  Carter was able to clear the bases with a triple.  After that, we were able to score multiple runs in every inning after that other than the 5th inning.  I told the kids after the game that it was nice to see us not only just get hits but get hard-hit balls while staying up the middle for the most part.  Staying up the middle tells me that we were staying on the ball and that's something I have been telling them and we have been working on.  It was also good to see Ty back on the mound for us and competing.  I think he missed a few spots in the first inning when he gave up 2 hits after getting 2 quick outs.  Hopefully, we can build off this game for next week as we play tough opponents in Cooter, Campbell, and Bernie again.  "

The junior varsity played three innings before the varsity contest and picked up a 5-3 victory.

The Eagles will host the Cooter Wildcats on Tuesday at 4:30.
