Junior high boys close regular season with sweep of Bobcats

The Oran Junior High School boys basketball teams ended their regular season with a  sweep of the visiting Delta Bobcats on Thursday.

The seventh-grade won 24-14 in a two-quarter contest and the eighth prevailed 45-43, in a nail-biter.

In the opener, Giddeon Davis led the victors with 14.

Brison Winchester had seven and Roman Schlosser added a field goal.

Coach Joe Bickings said, "We did a lot better job of guarding them and realizing what they were trying to do in the 2nd quarter."

They were 4 of 13 at the line and improved to 2-4 and 2-8.

In the nightcap, the Eagles led by five, 26-21, at the break but the Bobcats hit back-to-back threes to take the lead and it was nip and tuck the rest of the way.

The score was tied at 43.  Oran would inbounds the ball with 3.8 seconds remaining.  Nate Pobst got the shot, missed but grabbed his own rebound and put it back up, he scored as the buzzer sounded for the victory.

Pobst had a game-high 29.

Brenden Campbell had five. Cody Albritton and Jase Fuemmeler both had four.  Marshall Bradley added a field goal and Andrew Dennis a free throw.

Bicking said, "The game was a dog fight.  With us not capitalizing on some easy baskets during the game and Delta making 6 three-pointers hurt us."

The older boys were only 5-26 from the charity stripe.  With the win, they improved to 2-5 and 2-8.

Bickings added, "I tell the kids that free throws don't win every game, they just win the close ones. Overall, it was good to come out with a win on both sides."
