Eagles roll the 'Wave

The Oran High School girls basketball teams opened their seasons on the road Friday evening and picked up a pair of wins at Malden over the Class 3 Greenwave.

The junior varsity won, 58-27 and varsity routed the hosts, 70-31.

In the opener, Freshman Grace Davis led the Lady Eagles with 15 in just two quarters of action.

Emma Priggel had nine, including a trey.  Rylee Boshell had seven and she had a trey as well.  Hannah Boshell, Traci Hency, Daley Siebert and Haley Webb each added six.  Webb had a pair of three-pointers.  Taylor Hobbs rounded out the scoring with "three" of her own.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "We shot the ball really well from 3 point range especially in the 1st half. We went on a nice run in the 3rd quarter and Grace got hot for us. It was a nice start to the season."

The jayvee was 3- 6 from the line.

They outscored Malden 30-9 in the second half to pick up the 31 point win.

In the varsity contest, Oran scored first and never trailed as they rode the 30-point performance of junior, Katie Webb.

Oran led 37-15 at the intermission and cruised to the mercy-rule win.

Webb had a double-double to start the season on a high note, as she pulled down 13 rebounds.  Kaylee Payne had 18 points, including a three-pointer, six rebounds, five steals and three assists.

Davis added seven during varsity action.  Hope Woodfin and Heather Gosche had six apiece and Mallory Lowes added a trey to account for the team's points. Gosche dished out three assists, as well.

They were 25-45 from inside the arc for 55.6 percent.  From beyond they hit 32 of 12 for 16.7%.  At the free throw line,
they were 14-21 for 67%.

Evans said, "They had no answer for Katie inside and our guards were really good at getting her the ball in the post. Our defensive effort was solid in the 1st half and overall we rebounded well. "

The girls will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to conference foe, Scott County Central (1-0).  It will be Varsity only beginning at 6 pm.
