The Oran Junior High School boys basketball teams end their seasons yesterday in the first round of the Scott-Mississippi conference tournament at Chaffee.
The eighth-grade lost 42-35 to the hosts and the seventh dropped a 30-22 decision to Oak Ridge.
For the older team, Nate Pobst had 13, Brenden Campbell had 11. Campbell had three threes. Drake Dannenmueller, Andrew Dennis and Jase Fuemeller each had three. Dannenmueller and Dennis, both had treys.
They were 4 of 6 at the free throw line and finish the year at 3-9.
The seventh-grade was led by Roman Schlosser and Brison Winchester, who both scored eight. Giddeon Davis had six. They led by two after one but were outscored 14-4 in the second and lost by eight.
Coach Joe Bickings said, "Obviously not the way we wanted to end our season with both teams losing the 1st round of the conference tournament but sometimes that's how it goes. At the beginning of the year, we didn't set unrealistic goals for ourselves. The seventh-grade didn't win a game last year and the eighth-grade team only won 2 games last year. We set the goals for the seventh-grade to win at least one game and they exceeded that by winning two. We did feel like we could have won more but I felt like inexperience with them contributed to a few of those loses. We did improve as the year went along but we didn't seem to play consistently all the time. For the Eighth-grade, we set our goal at winning four games. We didn't meet that goal, however, we were able to win more games than we did last year. I felt like it was more of the same with the Eighth-grade that we couldn't play consistently for a whole game. It always seemed that we had one quarter that we didn't play well in and that would usually be a factor in the game. I was very proud of the 8th graders for playing extremely had during the conference tournament against Chaffee. We played them last week and got beat 24-41 and only lost to them 35-42 during the tournament. We gave ourselves a chance to win that game against a team that is playing for the conference championship."
They were 0 for four from the free throw line and finished at 2-9.
