The fifth-seeded Oran High School boys varsity basketball team picked up a 70-43 victory over the 12th-seeded Meadow Heights Panthers, but in the process senior Todd Priggel left the contest in the second quarter limping and did not return. We should know more about his condition later today.
The Eagles did not shoot the ball well last night but outscored their opponents in each quarter until briefly there was a running clock near the end of the game.
Tyson Goodale led all scorers with 27, including a trey. He had eight rebounds Ty Johnson had 16, along with eight rebounds and eight assists, Langdon Scheeter added seven. Cooper and Todd Priggel both finished with five, the former had a trey. Samuel Shoemaker had six points. Kaiden Massey had a field goal, as did Dane Shands, who was making his first appearance of the year after recovering from an injury.
Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "We didn’t shoot very well but created several shot opportunities from offensive rebounds and steals. We were standing too much in the first half against their zone but in the second half started moving better and attacking the high post. Todd sustained an injury and it looks like he will be out for a while and we have a short turnaround today to prepare for a very good Jackson team
"
The team was 12-20 from the line for 60% and 15-31 from inside the arc for 48.4%. From beyond the arc, they were 3 of 12 for 25%. The Eagles won the rebounding battle 36-23 and forced 28 turnovers while committing 15 of their own
With the win, Oran improves to 8-0 and will take on the fourth-seeded, class 5 Jackson Indians tonight at 9 pm.
