Lady Eagles defeat Cape Central

The fourth-seeded Oran High School varsity girls basketball team mounted a second-half comeback to defeat the fifth-seeded Cape Central Lady Tigers in the first round of the First State Community Bank Classic last night at the Show Me Center, 52-37.

Oran scored the first five points of the contest and led 11-10 after one but trailed at the break 25-21.  The Eagles took over in the second half, outscoring the class 4 school 31-12 to improve to 6-0 on the year.  Tonight, they will face top-seeded Notre Dame Regional High School Lady Bulldogs, another class 4 school, who comes in 4-0.  Game time is 7pm at the Show Me Center.

Katie Webb, despite early foul trouble, led all scorers with 22 points.  She had a team-high six rebounds.  Kaylee Payne also dealt with foul issues and had 20 points.  She had two treys, six assists and six steals.

Grace Davis and Hope Woodfin added four apiece and Heather Gosche had a field goal to round out the scoring.

As a team, they shot 18-39 from inside the arc for 46.2%.  They were 2 of 7 from beyond for 28.2%.  They made all 10 of their free throw shots.
