The Oran High School girls basketball team had not played a game in over two weeks and recently had several players miss practices due to the recent Beta Convention so they were anxious to get back on the court and last night they used all 14 available players and had 12 of them score in the opening-round game of the Lady Devil Invitational at Chaffee High School. Oran, the top-seed, ran away to a 65-1 victory over the eighth-seeded Puxico Lady Indians.
Kaylee Payne led all scorers with 13 points. She had a trey, four assists and four steals. Katie Webb added 12 and made both free throw attempts and had four rebounds. Heather Gosche was the third Lady Eagle in double digits with 10.
Hope Woodfin had seven points, including a trey. Taylor Lowes had five and she too hit one from beyond the arc.
Rylee Boshell, Traci Hency and Kennedi McVay each had four. McVay made both of her free tosses.
Savannah Below and Mallory Lowes both added a field goal and Lowes was credited with six steals.
Grace Davis and Haley Webb added a free throw apiece. Davis had a team-high five rebounds.
They were 25-45 from inside the arc for 54.3% and 3 of 19 from beyond for 15.8%. At the free throw line, they shot 6-16 for 37.5%.
Coach Ethan Evan said, "It was good to get back out there and play. I thought the 1st quarter was pretty good but we let our foot off the pedal in the 2nd. Everyone got some minutes and 12 of the 14 scored so that was nice."
Oran (3-0)will face a gritty #5-seed, the Delta Lady Bobcats (also 3-0) on Wednesday at 7:30. Delta upset fourth-seeded Woodland last night.
