One for the thumb

Yesterday evening, the Oran Lady Eagles varsity claimed the title of Lady Devil Invitational for the fifth straight year.  They defeated Scott City, 64-26 in Chaffee.  The Rams kept it close during the first half,  Oran jumped out to a 12-0 lead before
Scott City scored with 3:41 left in the first.  It was 19-8 after one and 37-20 at the intermission.  The Eagles outscored their opponents 28-6 in the second half.

Kaylee Payne was one of three Lady Eagles scoring in double-figures.  She had a game-high 16, including a trey.  She had seven rebounds, seven assists and six steals.  Hope Woodfin scored 15 and had three from beyond the arc.  Katie Webb had 12 points and seven boards.

Taylor Lowes had two threes to account for her six points.  Heather Gosche had four and Grace Davis scored three.  Savannah Below, Rylee Boshell Traci Hency and Kennedi McVay had two apiece.

The win was the third in less than 24 hours for Oran over Scott City on the hardwood.

The girls were 18-34 from inside the arc for 52.9% and 6-21 for 28.6% from beyond.  At the line, they hit 50% 10-20.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "It was nice to win this tournament again. We came out fast early but to their credit, they didn't go away. After halftime, our defensive intensity picked up and we really got after it. Overall it was a great effort by everyone"

The varsity will be back in action on Wednesday when they tip off in the First State Bank Holiday Classic at the Show Me Center.  The fourth-seeded Lady Eagles (4-0) will face fifth-seeded Cape Central at 5:30.
