Eagles escape from Scott City with sweep

On Friday, the Oran High School boys basketball teams had to ride a bus to a game for the first time this season.  The Eagles traveled to Scott City to take on the Rams.  The junior varsity won 52-35 and the varsity prevailed 67-57.

Oran held a twenty-point lead, 45-25 heading into the fourth quarter of the opener, but the Rams scored the first ten points of the period before Camdyn Triblett scored four of his team-high 15 points on consecutive possessions to stem the run and help preserve the lead.  He had one trey on the night.

Seth Cauble had nine points with two three-pointers.  Diesel Cato chipped in six points.  Kolton Payne, Rylee Schlosser and Samuel Shoemaker all added five points.  Schlosser hit a key three at the end of the third quarter.  Landon Cochran had four points and Nathaniel Woods hit one from beyond the arc for his points.

Coach Joe Bickings said, "I thought the JV team played well against Scott City.  We played with intensity early on and set the tone of the game.  We had a few times when we didn't talk very well on defense.  Our issue now is that we have players that haven't played with each other a whole lot and are put in different spots from what they are used to.  We will have to get better on the fly this week as we play 4 games in 4 days."

In the varsity contest,  Oran led 21-14 after one and 36-29 at the break.  It was 53-42 after three.  The Rams cut the deficit to single digits in the fourth and the Eagles finished with a 10-point win.

Oran had four to score in double figures.  Tyson Goodale led the Eagles with 22, including three three's. Cooper Priggel hit five treys for his 15 points.  Todd Priggel dealt with early foul trouble had 13 and 11 of those came during the final period and was 5-5 from the line during the fourth.   Ty Johnson was the fourth with 10 points.

Johnson had a team-high seven rebounds and five assists.

Overall, rebounds were even at 25.  Scott City committed 18 turnovers and the Eagles 12

Langdon Scheeter hit a trey and had five points, Cam Westrich hit a field goal to round out the scoring.

Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "We were able to get away with a jv and a varsity win which hasn’t happened very often at Scott City. We didn’t have a very good week of practice which is on me and it showed during the game. We faced some adversity and was forced to execute some things at the end of the game. Hopefully, we learn some lessons from this game."

They were 10 of 12 from the line for 83%.  From inside the arc, they were 15 of 27 for 55.6.% and from beyond they hit 9 of 23 for 39.1%.
The jayvee is now 2-0 and will play on Monday in the Advance Jayvee tournament at 4pm taking on Woodland.

The varsity is 4-0.  Both teams will travel to East Prairie on Tuesday to take on the Eagles at 6 pm.
