After suffering a heartbreaking two-point loss to Jackson the night before in the late game, the Oran High School varsity boys basketball team was back on the floor yesterday mid-afternoon to take on the Scott City Rams, a team they had defeated by 10 two weeks ago. The Eagles held on for a 62-57 victory.
Oran trailed most of the first quarter but managed a slim 13-12 lead after one, they pushed it to seven, 33-26 at the break, It was down to six, 46-40 heading into the final eight minutes and Oran escaped with the five-point win.
Tyson Goodale led all scorers with 20 points. He hit two treys. The Eagles had four scorers in double-digits. Goodale was joined by Ty Johnson, Cooper Priggel and Langdon Scheeter, all three had 11 apiece. Priggel had three threes and Johnson had two. Scheeter had a team-high five rebounds and Johnson led the team with six assists.
Dane Shands scored five, including a triple. Sam Shoemaker added four points to round out the scoring.
They were 6 of 11 from the line for 54.5%. They were 16-27 from inside the arc for 59.3% and 8 of 17 from beyond for 47.1%. The Eagles were outrebounded 20-18 but committed only eight turnovers while forcing 10.
Coach Joe Shoemaker told the blog, "I thought we played against a tough team and came out with a victory. We have some turnover problems to work on as we should have done a better job of taking care of the ball late in the game. We will take Sunday to recover and prepare for Delta on Monday. "
Oran will next play Monday at 4;30 pm taking on Delta for the fifth-place trophy. It will be a rematch of last year's fifth-place game. The Eagles won that one, 72-53.
Oran is now 9-1,
