On Friday evening the Oran High School boys basketball teams hosted the Meadow Heights Panthers. Oran won both contests in mercy-rule fashion. The junior varsity picked up a 61-24 victory, while the varsity prevailed, 70-34.
In the opener, the junior varsity fell behind 5-4 but led after one, 20-7. It was 39-9 at the break and Oran went on to claim a 37-point victory.
Kolten Payne led all scorers with 12. Seth Cauble had 11 and was 5-5 from the line.
Robby Menz had nine points, including a trey. Nick Romas and Camdyn Triblett had six apiece. Lane Peterson had five. He hit one from beyond the arc. Diesel Cato, Landon Cochran and Nathaniel Woods each scored four.
They hit 9-10 from the line and improved to 9-1 on the year.
Coach Joe Bickings said, "It was another good win for us. We came out and played extremely well. We played hard and got nine different players in the scoring column. This group is unselfish and spreads the ball around and that is hard to guard because you can't concentrate on any one or two players. We will have a good test coming up against Kelly on Tuesday. It's a nice conference rival and hopefully we can keep playing well and come out on top. "
In the nightcap, it was only a five-point game after one, 12-7. The Eagles took control in the second and were on top 38-18 at the break and outscored the visitors, 32-16 over the final 16 minutes for the 36-point win.
Langdon Scheeter led all scorers with 23. Tyson Goodale had 15, including a trey.
Dane Shands put in nine, he hit one from beyond the arc. Cooper Priggel hit two from long-distance to account for his six points. Cameron "Big Dawg" Westrich scored five. Kaiden Massey totaled four, Diesel Cato and Samuel Shoemaker both added three, Shoemaker had a team-high seven rebounds. Nick Romas had a field goal to round out the scoring. Ty Johnson did not score but dished out a team-high 10 assists.
They were 10-12 from the line for 83.3%, from inside the arc 24-42 for 57.1% and from beyond 4 of 19 for 21.1%.
They outrebounded the Panthers 42-23 and forced 17 turnovers while committing 10 of their own.
Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "I thought that we played hard on defense and did a better job of blocking out and limiting turnovers. We have a tough opponent on Tuesday and need to have a good practice to get ready."
The varsity is now 11-2 on the year.
That opponent on Tuesday will be the Kelly Hawks, tip time is 6 pm at Oran High School.
