Lady Eagles defeat Devils

The Oran High School girls basketball teams hosted conference and district rival Chaffe last night.  Oran won both contests.  The junior varsity picked up a 59-18 victory and the varsity prevailed 78-38.

The younger team was up 11-5 after one and expanded its lead from there including a 20-0 fourth quarter.

Hannah Boshell led all scorers with 14 points.

Emma Priggel put in nine, Daley Siebert added eight, including four for four from the line.  Rylee Boshell, Traci Hency and Haley Webb had seven apiece.  Boshell hit two treys, while Hency and Webb had one each.  Laney Shy rounded out the scoring with six.

The team was 9-16 from the line for 56.2%.  They are now 2-0 in the Scott-Miss and 3-1 overall.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "We did way too much fouling early on but did a better job after that of applying good defensive pressure. The girls spread the ball around well and [had] good balanced scoring."

In the nightcap, the varsity appeared to come out a little lackadaisical.  The score was tied at 12 with 3:00 left on the first-quarter clock. Then thanks in large part to back-to-back threes by Hope Woodfin and increased defensive effort Oran went on a 12-4 run to close out the quarter and take a 24-16 lead into the second and the Eagles outscored Chaffee 54-22 the rest of the way to claim a forty-point win.

Coach Evans commented, "We came out and started the way we practiced on Sunday, not very good. After that, we got after it a little better. The varsity also had good balance which was nice to see"

Woodfin led all scorers with 21.  Katie Webb finished with 20 and a team-high six rebounds.  Kaylee Payne added 19 and a team-high eight assists,  Woodfin hit three threes as did Payne.

Freshman Grace Davis scored nine and grabbed five boards off the bench.  Heather Gosche had four points.  Taylor Lowes hit a trey for her points and she pulled down five rebounds as well.  Mallory Lowes made a field goal.

The varsity was 24-41 for 58.1" from inside the arc and 7-18 from beyond for 38.9%.  They made 9 of 12 from the line for 75%.

Comments from Coach Evans will be added as soon as possible.

They improved to 3-0 and 8-3.  The girls will be back in action on Thursday when they host Kelly at 6 pm.  This will be the annual "Lil cheer night."
