Eagles celebrate Homecoming with wins over Wildcats

On Friday night, the Oran High School boys basketball teams hosted the Leopold Wildcats on the 2020 Homecoming night. The junior varsity won 61-24 and the varsity prevailed 66-54.

In the opener, it was all Eagles from start to finish.  Oran led 30-4 after one and went on to the 37-point win.

Seth Cauble led all scorers with 20, including two treys and Camdyn Triblett had 10 points.

And the Eagles had 11 players score.

Robby Menz and Kolten Payne both scored eight. Diesel Cato added four. Landon Cochran, Parker Diebold, Luke Peterson, Riley Schlosser and Nick Romas each added a field goal.  Nic Massey rounded out the scoring with a free throw.

The younger team was 9-11 from the line for 81.8% and improved to 14-2 heading into the Scott-Miss conference tournament.

Coach Joe Bickings said, "We came out and had a really good first half.  We were able to put pressure on the ball and create turnovers so we could run the floor and get easy baskets.  We were also able to share the basketball around and get 11 different people in the scoring column."

The varsity contest was much closer.  In fact, Oran trailed 20-13 after one and the game was tied 32 all,  at the intermission.  The Eagles outscored Leopold 34-22 in the second half to pick up the win.

Ty Johson led the Eagles with 22 points including four treys.  He had a double-double with 15 rebounds.  Tyson Goodale just missed a double-double with 15 points and nine boards.  Langdon Scheeter also scored in double-digits with 10 points.

Dane Shands finished with nine and made two from beyond the arc.  Cooper Priggel had eight points and two three-pointers.  Kaiden Massey added a field goal.

They were 8 of 10 from the line, 14 of 38 from inside the arc for 36.8 percent and 10 of 28 from beyond for 35.7%.

Oran won the battle on the boards, 44-23 and forced 15 but committed 13 of their own.

Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "We didn't play a complete game. but I felt we had a good effort on defense especially during the second half."

The varsity improved to 16-3.
